Discovering Our Backyard Gem: Susquehanna State Park

Discovering Our Backyard Gem: Susquehanna State Park

Hey neighbors! Ever feel like you need a quick escape without traveling far? Let's explore Susquehanna State Park, a scenic gem right here in our backyard!

Nestled on the banks of the Susquehanna River’s West Branch, this park is perfect for a local day trip, offering a mix of history, beautiful views, and recreational activities that make it a must-visit spot for us locals.

There is so much to learn and see! In the 19th century, the Susquehanna River’s West Branch was vital to the lumber industry, and the area around the park was a bustling hub. The Rock Run Grist Mill was built around 1794 by John Stump, a successful businessman. The mill served as a center of activity where local residents bought, sold and bartered goods. It still operates on a limited basis during the summer.
